Chat took place on Fanfare, 28 October 2007

Before Michael arrived, tadpole1tail recommended that chatters place their name and locations in the "personal description" line next to their names.  Most people followed that excellent suggestion, as you can see.  Although there was chatting both before and after our special guest arrived, this transcript begins with Michael's arrival and ends with his departure.  Enjoy!

Its not always very easy to sign in

_Celeste_ (um, Celeste, Wisconsin-USA):
Glad you could make it, Michael.

Rhosan (Rhosan from Boise, Idaho USA):
Thank you for joining us

_Celeste_ (um, Celeste, Wisconsin-USA):
It would probably help if I gave him all the information he needed to sign on!

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
ok anyone for a brew?

Michael_Praed :
It's my pleasure. It's great to be here. And I'm very well, thank you Janet-Dan. AS are you, I hope.

Janet-Dan (Wiltshire,England):
We are very well, thank you Michael. We just got back from Austria yesterday.

Michael_Praed :
My scroll bar keeps automatically popping up to the top which means I have to keep pulling it down! Does everyone have this problem?

danceshadow (Gerry-the aircraft mechanic from US):
wanted to know how is your musical coming along.. cannot wait to come over to see it

moishouki (Annie from Quebec province, Canada, so sorry for the way i wrote in English):
it does that on each new entree on the chat window

topdrops (Ilse, the Netherlands):
No, Michael I don't.

Lucie23uk (Rita,Christine's mum, France):
no

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
no, sorry, but I'm not sure what you need to do about it Michael.

mirlacca (Ashley, Second-to-Last Lonely House, Virginia USA):
Not here, but people have mentioned things available on their screens I don't see on mine, so maybe they're all different.

_Celeste_ (um, Celeste, Wisconsin-USA):
You mean the text part?

Janet-Dan (Wiltshire,England):
Are you using a mouse or the inbuilt one on a laptop Michael?

_Celeste_ (um, Celeste, Wisconsin-USA):
The part with the dialogue rather than our names?

SavvyHaze (Hazel, Glasgow, Scotland):
Mine isn't doing that, but it's had one or two issues tonight...

Michael_Praed :
I mean the reading the messages part, as soon as I've typed, will scro;; back to the very first message written. In other words, it won't stay on the last message. Make sense?

mirlacca (Ashley, Second-to-Last Lonely House, Virginia USA):
Yes, but have no idea why it would happen...

_Celeste_ (um, Celeste, Wisconsin-USA):
Got it. That's a little odd!

mirlacca (Ashley, Second-to-Last Lonely House, Virginia USA):
something about settings, maybe?

Rhosan (Rhosan from Boise, Idaho USA):
I can't think of how to fix it.

Janet-Dan (Wiltshire,England):
Ok, strange. Maybe you would need to log out and in again to fix it?

wolfshead2000 (Richard (The IT Guy), Dublin):
Apart from updating Java

moishouki (Annie from Quebec province, Canada, so sorry for the way i wrote in English):
it the reverse on my side, alway back on the last one

Michael_Praed :
I'm using a trackball. I just removed it. No change. I've now hit my laptop with a hammer. No change there, either.

Michael_Praed :
I'll live with it.

tadpole1tail (Christine, Cheshire, UK):
I was thinking the same thing, log out and back in again.

Lucie23uk (Rita,Christine's mum, France):
lol

mirlacca (Ashley, Second-to-Last Lonely House, Virginia USA):
maybe the laptop wants a beer?

_Celeste_ (um, Celeste, Wisconsin-USA):
Lol. Well.. hit any key...

Caz_UK (Carol, Epsom, Surrey):
that always works for me - I am not very technical

mirlacca (Ashley, Second-to-Last Lonely House, Virginia USA):
If the hammer doesn't work, other persuasion might.

Caz_UK (Carol, Epsom, Surrey):
I mean the hammer hitting - relieves stress

Janet-Dan (Wiltshire,England):
Hit any key? Where's the "any" key? LoL

wolfshead2000 (Richard (The IT Guy), Dublin):
High impact engineering

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
maybe a bit of charm may help eh?

SavvyHaze (Hazel, Glasgow, Scotland):
Perhaps it's on Sunday night mode... y'know... can't be bothered!

mirlacca (Ashley, Second-to-Last Lonely House, Virginia USA):
maybe it's already been into the beer.

moishouki (Annie from Quebec province, Canada, so sorry for the way i wrote in English):
Well, Michael, I will not try suck fixing on mine, not tecnicaly mine befor finish to be paid lol

moishouki (Annie from Quebec province, Canada, so sorry for the way i wrote in English):
such

_Celeste_ (um, Celeste, Wisconsin-USA):
Try exiting and signing in again, Michael. Constant scrolling is a hassle.

Michael_Praed :
Thank you, Toshki. I appreciate what you've said. Thank you.

Janet-Dan (Wiltshire,England):
Michael. A question. Are you doing any further narrtions for TimeWatch. Just wondering if you were doing the Stonehenge one?

_Celeste_ (um, Celeste, Wisconsin-USA):
The exit is to your left, next to the message box. Just don't forget to come back!

Janet-Dan (Wiltshire,England):
Apologies for the spelling.

Michael_Praed :
I'll try that, Celeste. See you in two seconds. Maybe three.

danceshadow (Gerry-the aircraft mechanic from US):
this is so grand....thanks Celeste

danceshadow (Gerry-the aircraft mechanic from US):
and of course Michael too

Michael_Praed :
Maybe this'll work. If not? I'll live with it!

_Celeste_ (um, Celeste, Wisconsin-USA):
We'll find out quickly!

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
any luck Michael?

Clareblackledge (Clare, Flitwick, Bedfordshire, UK):
Damm I go away for 5 minutes!

Caz_UK (Carol, Epsom, Surrey):
fingers crossed

SavvyHaze (Hazel, Glasgow, Scotland):
and toes!

_Celeste_ (um, Celeste, Wisconsin-USA):
Meanwhile, let's get back to J&D's question... any more 'Timewatch' programs?

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
yes I had them all crossed for this evenings chat.

moishouki (Annie from Quebec province, Canada, so sorry for the way i wrote in English):
surely not too pratic to use the keyboard nex Lorraine

Michael_Praed :
Someone was asking about DREAMLAND. The short answer is: We were all set to go for the workshop. We were cast, rehearsal rooms booked etc, etc, And then we lost our funding. We've now raised half the funding! And we're getting closer every day.

Lucie23uk (Rita,Christine's mum, France):
That sounds hopeful

Rhosan (Rhosan from Boise, Idaho USA):
Workshop?

Michael_Praed :
By the way. The scrolling problem has disappeared. Yee-hah!

danceshadow (Gerry-the aircraft mechanic from US):
wonderful..Ill be there somehow on opening night...my credit card will have to cry a bit but worth it

tadpole1tail (Christine, Cheshire, UK):
Yay!!

moishouki (Annie from Quebec province, Canada, so sorry for the way i wrote in English):
Lost the funding?

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
nice one

Caz_UK (Carol, Epsom, Surrey):
how awful - at least your half way back ontrack. Can I ask what inspired you to wrie Dreamland?

Janet-Dan (Wiltshire,England):
Sorry to hear that. Money is always the big stumbling block.

Caz_UK (Carol, Epsom, Surrey):
write even

Clareblackledge (Clare, Flitwick, Bedfordshire, UK):
Hello Michael. Anything we can do to help raise the money?

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
If I win the lottery Michael, I'll know a good place for it

danceshadow (Gerry-the aircraft mechanic from US):
good one Claire

Michael_Praed :
A workshop is where you get proffessional actors, your director, and you rehearse for two/three weeks and perform in front of your investors with the hope they will part with very large sums of money in order for you to mount a full-scale production.

toshki (toshki. I.o.Wight U.K.):
M.P. Can I ask who has had the most pround inluence on your way of think/life and why

mirlacca (Ashley, Second-to-Last Lonely House, Virginia USA):
Where do you plan to have the workshop? Would it be in London?

Rhosan (Rhosan from Boise, Idaho USA):
Thank you!

Lucie23uk (Rita,Christine's mum, France):
Have you got any interesting actors lined up?

_Celeste_ (um, Celeste, Wisconsin-USA):
I have an idea for keeping Michael from pulling out his hair... Michael, when you are ready for another question, just ask for NEXT. That way we won't bombard you.

Michael_Praed :
There are more Timwatch's coming up. I do one in a couple of weeks. I have no idea yet what it'll be about. (THE SCROLLING MONSTER IS BACK. NO!!!!!!!)

wolfshead2000 (Richard (The IT Guy), Dublin):
Have you done the Irish Viking Longship Timewatch?

Michael_Praed :
The workshop would be in London

mirlacca (Ashley, Second-to-Last Lonely House, Virginia USA):
Thank you!

Michael_Praed :
The longship one IS one of the ones, yes!

wolfshead2000 (Richard (The IT Guy), Dublin):
Cool, went to see it a couple of weeks ago

bluewatchlady :
Michael, when you have a mo' - any more audio books in the pipeline?

Janet-Dan (Wiltshire,England):
You weren't in Dublin the other week were you Michael?

Michael_Praed :
All the actors for the workshop were in West End shows, pretty much. All the leads, certainly. We also had a star or two. What their availibility will be next time? We shall have to see.

_Celeste_ (um, Celeste, Wisconsin-USA):
Hey folks, lets wait for him to ask for the next question.

mirlacca (Ashley, Second-to-Last Lonely House, Virginia USA):
That must be incredibly frustrating.

Michael_Praed :
I wasn't in Dublin, no.

wolfshead2000 (Richard (The IT Guy), Dublin):
Someone saw your Doppleganger then

Michael_Praed :
He must be a very very handsome man, don't you think???????

Caz_UK (Carol, Epsom, Surrey):
lol

Lucie23uk (Rita,Christine's mum, France):
absolutely

Janet-Dan (Wiltshire,England):
[cough]

wolfshead2000 (Richard (The IT Guy), Dublin):
Mandy thought so

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
nice one lol

mirlacca (Ashley, Second-to-Last Lonely House, Virginia USA):
A mere shadow of the reality.

danceshadow (Gerry-the aircraft mechanic from US):
besides the timewatches and the show..are you doing anything else soon?

moishouki (Annie from Quebec province, Canada, so sorry for the way i wrote in English):
did i not feel some wind get through my room lol

_Celeste_ (um, Celeste, Wisconsin-USA):
"A handsome devil"? Where have I heard that before, I wonder...

wolfshead2000 (Richard (The IT Guy), Dublin):
With a french accent

_Celeste_ (um, Celeste, Wisconsin-USA):

Clareblackledge (Clare, Flitwick, Bedfordshire, UK):
He must have been!

danceshadow (Gerry-the aircraft mechanic from US):
just so...of course

tadpole1tail (Christine, Cheshire, UK):
What can you tell us about the premise for Dreamland?

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
Michael, please may I ask you, we heard that you were approached for Strictly Come Dancing, who would you have liked to have danced with had you taken up the offer?

topdrops (Ilse, the Netherlands):
Michael, I saw your weddingpictures in the OK! magasine. Celeste sent them to me. I think your wife looks like Alladin's Yasmine from Walt Disney.

Michael_Praed :
I'm going to be doing a tour starting January next year of the play SLUETH with Simon Maccorrkindale. (If I've spealt that correctly.) It's for 6 months. All over england. It was originally made into a film with Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine. And now

wolfshead2000 (Richard (The IT Guy), Dublin):
Is Dublin on the tour? And if not, why not?????

SavvyHaze (Hazel, Glasgow, Scotland):
Oooh sounds fantastic!

Lucie23uk (Rita,Christine's mum, France):
Thats good news, for us fans anyway

danceshadow (Gerry-the aircraft mechanic from US):
yes Ive seen that one...oh my credit card is screaming now

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
Please let it be Stockport or Manchester.

Michael_Praed :
I WAS approached for Strictly Come Dancing. Evidentally, I didn't make the cut, since I never heard another word. Misguided BAAAAAAAASRADS!!!!

Janet-Dan (Wiltshire,England):
Fantastic! Simon MacCorkindale is a great guy. Wish you luck, and of course we'll eb there...

Clareblackledge (Clare, Flitwick, Bedfordshire, UK):
Ha ha!

SavvyHaze (Hazel, Glasgow, Scotland):
Can't wait to see that

Michael_Praed :
Dublin may well be on the tour. I don't have the schedule yet.

Rhosan (Rhosan from Boise, Idaho USA):
What a mistake they made.

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
oh well, they don't know what they are misseing eh Michael.

toshki (toshki. I.o.Wight U.K.):
I loved the original Sleuth. Whch part will you be playing? Mcaine or laurence Olivier role?

Clareblackledge (Clare, Flitwick, Bedfordshire, UK):
Look forward to that!

Lucie23uk (Rita,Christine's mum, France):
what shame, I'd love to have seen you on Strictly

Caz_UK (Carol, Epsom, Surrey):
excellent, I am so looking forward to seein.g you on tour

Michael_Praed :
DREAMLAND is a musical-noir. You know the kind of thing: Set in the 1940's, Private Eyes, Femme Fatelle, Good Guys/Bad Guys, set in Hollywood. The music is Big Band. Think, Frank Sinatra. That kinda thing.

danceshadow (Gerry-the aircraft mechanic from US):
I will be flying over....always wonderful and fun to come over and watch you perform..and yes..there goes the credit card

Michael_Praed :
I'm Milo. The Michael Caine part.

mirlacca (Ashley, Second-to-Last Lonely House, Virginia USA):
Oh, how cool.

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
love big bands. Glen Miller was fantastic.

Janet-Dan (Wiltshire,England):
Wonderful

Lucie23uk (Rita,Christine's mum, France):
when do you start rehearsals for that?

SavvyHaze (Hazel, Glasgow, Scotland):
Sounds wonderful... I love that era

Michael_Praed :
We rehearse for a week in november, a week in december, two weeks in January. Then we're on.

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
that's pretty quick.

Lucie23uk (Rita,Christine's mum, France):
fantastic, I'll actually be in the UK then

toshki (toshki. I.o.Wight U.K.):
Will you be touring throughout u.k or just in london

wolfshead2000 (Richard (The IT Guy), Dublin):
Well pop over to see you so, somewhere

danceshadow (Gerry-the aircraft mechanic from US):
and I will be there somehow/someway

moishouki (Annie from Quebec province, Canada, so sorry for the way i wrote in English):
I know what to do now, send a good printed to Gerry for her to have that for Michael to sign for me

Lucie23uk (Rita,Christine's mum, France):
Can you see how widespread your fans are on here tonight?

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
we should have a get together, that would be good.

Michael_Praed :
By the way. If I don't answer ALL your questions it because there are soooo many and I'll inevitably miss some. Plus: I may very well go blind since my 'writing box thingy' is TINY, and. . . My fingers are on fire. Aside from that, everything else seems t

danceshadow (Gerry-the aircraft mechanic from US):
always..we should plan that lorraine

SavvyHaze (Hazel, Glasgow, Scotland):
Don't worry Michael, you're doing great

moishouki (Annie from Quebec province, Canada, so sorry for the way i wrote in English):
you can enlarge the window at the screen tall, with the sqare in the upper right corner<

Michael_Praed :
Our tour takes us the all over England and covers a large swathe of Scotland as well.

Janet-Dan (Wiltshire,England):
It's not your fault. We're a bit disorganised here. So many questions...

Clareblackledge (Clare, Flitwick, Bedfordshire, UK):
Yippee!

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
Oh it would be so good to meet up with you all. I know Rita as I don't live too far from where she is.

toshki (toshki. I.o.Wight U.K.):
That's no excuse you'resupposed to be a godlike figure!

danceshadow (Gerry-the aircraft mechanic from US):
cannot wait to tell my good friend Evie about the show

SavvyHaze (Hazel, Glasgow, Scotland):
Scotland too? Now yer talking!

Lucie23uk (Rita,Christine's mum, France):
Gerry Can't you text Evie to tell her Michael is online?

Michael_Praed :
Hazel, we're coming to Glasgow!

topdrops (Ilse, the Netherlands):
You may bring a visit to Holland too if you would like that Michael. The Carre in Amsterdam is a nice place for musicals.

danceshadow (Gerry-the aircraft mechanic from US):
ok I will try..be right back folks

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
that must have been really good fun Rita, when did that happen please

Lucie23uk (Rita,Christine's mum, France):

SavvyHaze (Hazel, Glasgow, Scotland):
I sympathise Michael, I'm going to Paris in a couple of weeks and my french is, frankly, tragic!

Sushi does not sound very Indian, Michael. I thought that you had Indian food, sorry that I misunderstood.

SavvyHaze (Hazel, Glasgow, Scotland):
I tried it when I lived in California, I really liked it

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
I don't much care for Fish, and I can't imagine eating it raw.

Michael_Praed :
I DID see Nick in The Drowsy Chaperone!! As a matter of fact, I spoke to hom only days ago. It was, I thought, a terrific show. And a grave pity it had to close so early. We're having dinner soon. And I think he's got some 'insider information' as to why

Lucie23uk (Rita,Christine's mum, France):
I really wanted to see that, but it closed before I did

Janet-Dan (Wiltshire,England):
Give Nick our love. We haven't seen him for so long.

Michael_Praed :
Hey, Kate! What are you kidding? I've got BROADBAND now!!! Who'd've ever thought I'd catch up to the 21st Centuary?

Lucie23uk (Rita,Christine's mum, France):

Michael_Praed :
Aren't you proud of me???!!!

catwitch13 :

Michael_Praed :
I'm no watching Top Gear, no. I couldn't possibly. My brain would most likely implode from all this sensory overload!

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
I reckon that should be your online name Michael, if we are lucky enough to have you here with us again.

moishouki (Annie from Quebec province, Canada, so sorry for the way i wrote in English):

I have something tragic to share. The first time that I saw you Michael was in Dynasty and you wore a light blue suit and were calling Amanda. And the second time that I saw you Michael was in the Moldavian massacre when you were shut. I almost fainted.

Michael_Praed :
Top Gear is a TV show ostensible about cars. It sounds like a 'boy thing'. But it's realy a very good programme, chiefly because it's three presenters are brilliant together and seperately. It's like watching our best friends have great fun while they tel

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):

wolfshead2000 (Richard (The IT Guy), Dublin):
Veyron is a car, Euro-fighter is a military jet

Janet-Dan (Wiltshire,England):
You have to find it first

Clareblackledge (Clare, Flitwick, Bedfordshire, UK):

Michael_Praed (Internet God):
I HAVEN"T seen the new Robin. All I've seen are the trailers, which I thought we're FANTASTIC. I must get around to watching it when it comes back.

Clareblackledge (Clare, Flitwick, Bedfordshire, UK):
Cool Gerry! We have a bit of a collection of cars.

danceshadow (Gerry-the aircraft mechanic from US):
and I am very very short..Frances is even taller than me

Staffoflife (Lorraine,Stockport):
It's airing now i think Michael.

Caz_UK (Carol, Epsom, Surrey):
I think the have seriously miscast that that Robin Hood - the guy who plays Gisbourne should have been Robin. It isn't a bad version just not great

Janet-Dan (Wiltshire,England):
Please, don't. It's not good Michael.
